War Crimes Suspect Csatáry Dies In Hungary
War crimes suspect László Csatáry died in hospital on Saturday at age 98, the tabloid Bors reported on Monday. Csatáry, who was awaiting trial on war crimes charges, had contracted pneumonia in recent days, and had been transferred from one hospital to another in Budapest.

Csatáry is accused of the torture and unlawful execution of Jews, and of taking a major role in sending over 10,00 Jews to concentration camps while police commander of Kosice in 1944.

Csatáry had denied the charges.

The Simon Wiesenthal Centre expressed its deep disappointment that Csatáry had “escaped justice.”
