Some 40,000 Vehicles In Hungary Affected By VW Emissions Scandal
Data from the National Transport Authority indicate that 40,095 vehicles in Hungary are affected by Volkswagen’s diesel emissions scandal, Development Minister Miklós Seszták said. In his response to independent lawmaker Tímea Szabó in parliament, Seszták said the transport authority automatically certifies new cars based on approval by an EU member state regulator.

The minister said the vehicles affected by the scandal were approved by Germany, after which the Hungarian authority did not conduct any further testing on them.

The minister said Hungary’s public procurement directorate has begun investigating government vehicles.

Porsche Hungaria, the Hungarian importer of Volkswagen brands, said on its website that 35,283 vehicles will need software upgrades as a result of the scandal.
