'Parallel Intersection' Exhibition @ Capa Center Budapest
Shown until 16 October. The main profile of the platform established in the cooperation of 18 European institutions of photography is to provide opportunities for young talented artists and curators to introduce themselves on the international scene of photography.

Parallel Intersection exhibits the participating photographers’ works in two main shows. In the Showcase exhibition, the artists selected in 2019 into the third cycle of the program present their portfolios in the form of standardized banners in the Project Room of the Capa Center.

In the Zeitgeist exhibition, the works of the artists participating in last year’s second cycle are shown organized into four parts.

SHOWCASE exhibition

In the digital age, we tend to forget how crucial a cleverly composed collection of business cards could be only a couple of decades ago. Part of the Parallel Intersection, the Showcase exhibition is a collective introduction – similar to a bouquet of business cards – in which 30 artists selected by the jury from the applicants of the public call will put their business cards on the table.

This is an important milestone for them, as well as a promise for us because parallel to that, they will embark upon the work of the year before them to prepare, in the framework of the Parallel Platform, their newest works, armed with the advice of mentors, curators and peer artists. Thus thirty artists of promising talent are debuting in Budapest.

ZEITGEIST exhibition

The exhibiting young contemporary artists created their works using the broadest range of the photographic toolkit and applying a diversity of techniques and new media. Their pieces deal with current issues and the problems of our environment as well as topics concerning their generational scope of interest.

According to the curatorial concept, the artworks within Zeitgeist are presented in a thematic order organized under four titles: Post-truth, Anthropocene, Mystique, and Identity. The totality of the works together represent the Zeitgeist, or the spirit of our times defining the way of thinking, the aspirations, and the objectives of people living in the first quarter of the 21st century.
