But why? Why was Hungary punished so harshly?
Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Budapest on Wednesday for what can be described as a historic visit, marking the first time a Chinese head of state has visited Hungary in 20 years.
The Chinese president’s upcoming visit to Hungary — and the fact that France was the only other European Union country on his itinerary — is confirmation of the effectiveness of Hungary’s connectivity strategy, the prime minister’s political director has said.
Hungary will stay out of “NATO’s insane action” despite all pressure on the country, the foreign minister said, adding that “it will however be a long fight, in which the upcoming EP election, when people can express their opinion on war or peace, will be an important point”.
Left-liberal authors disapprove of the government’s confrontational attitude towards the European Union, while their pro-government colleagues hope that the June elections will produce a new political order in Brussels.
