InterContinental Budapest Fund Raising Helps Red Sludge Victims
The tide of toxic red mud burst through the walls of a giant storage reservoir at an alumina refinery in Hungary, and hundreds of families lost their homes, some families even lost loved ones. The InterContinental Budapest organized their fund raising effort in cooperation with the Hungarian Red Cross to help the victims. Guests and employees of the hotel raised one million Hungarian Forints, almost 4,000 Euro, within only 2 weeks. The contributions of the hotel were entrusted to Mr. István Kardos from the Hungarian Red Cross by Mr. Mathieu van Alphen, General Manager of InterContinental Budapest.

As part of this activity donation-boxes were installed at the staff entrance as well as in the lobby area of the hotel. In addition, the hotel also donated food, and hygienic supplies, such as shampoo and shower gel.
