Located in the 12th district of the Hungarian capital, was opened by Korean Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism Choi Kwang-sik with the Korean Ambassador to Hungary H. E. Nam Gwan-pyo, also Miklós Réthelyi the Hungarian National Resources Minister spoke at the opening ceremony.

Students of the Liszt Music Academy in Budapest performed at the opening, giving a recital of Korean and Hungarian folk songs, also there was a display of taekowndo.

According to MTI Hungary was the first Eastern European country to establish ties with Korea in 1989, with the two countries having an inter-government agreement on culture and education under which specific cooperation is laid out every two years.

The two-story Korean cultural center in Budapest consists of a library, and other rooms to learn the Korean language, play Korean computer games, plus the opportunity to sample Korean food.

The overall aim is to share information about the colourful culture of South Korea, including Korean pop music and TV dramas, known as “hallyu”. Visitors to the center can listen to K-pop albums and also, in the basement, they can practise taekwondo.
