Gay Teacher Wins Discrimination Case In Hungary
The Kúria ruled on Monday that a person had lost his job as a result of unlawful discrimination because of his sexual orientation, the first such ruling in Hungary, Népszava reports. The plaintiff, a vocational secondary school teacher in Cegléd, said he will not give his name as he fears he may not find a job elsewhere.

The court found that the two-year contract demanded by the plaintiff’s employer in 2005 was illegal, as only open-ended contracts with public servants are allowed.

The head of the school arbitrarily amended the contract in 2006 then termintated the working relationship

Regarding financial compensation, the plaintiff said he will turn to the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, as the Kúria referred his demands for compenstaion to the same Pest county court that earlier ruled against his plea.
