Hungary's Ruling Party Fidesz Prepares To Add To Free Cash Withdrawals
Fidesz will pass a law before the elections on increasing the number of monthly free cash withdrawals unless current talks with banks yield a solution, party spokeswoman Gabriella Selmeczi told reporters on Tuesday.

She said banks will not be allowed to circumvent regulations, as everyone has a basic right to withdraw up to Ft 150,000 cash a month free of charge.

Party caucus leader Antal Rogán told TV2 Tuesday morning that banks are trying to cheat ordinary people, because while the law states that everybody may take out a total of Ft 150,000 in cash in two withdrawals a month free of charge, there are many ATMs from which only a maximum Ft 50,000 may be withdrawn at a time.

“This is an obvious attempt at trickery”, he said.

Bank Federation general secretary Levente Kovács told reporters that all banks and bank managers are in favour of the twice monthly free cash withdrawals system.
