Civil Groups Demonstrate For Free Press In Hungary
Civil groups gathered for a protest for the freedom of the press in Budapest’s Kossuth Square on Monday evening before walking over to the Buda side to continue their protest in front the headquarters of Magyar Telekom.

Gábor Ferencz, an author for internet blog Átlátszó (‘transparent’), said that the media is “being devoured” by the government, leaving fewer and fewer independent outlets.

Another speaker called for a boycott of Magyar Telekom, which owns news portal Origo, whose editor-in-chief was recently sacked.

The protesters insist he was dismissed under political pressure.
