He said the number of replies – 1.13 million – indicates that the questions are relevant and essential and are important for the future of Hungary.

The participation level now exceeds that in the anti-refugee consultation of 2015, he added.

Dömötör described the response as a stand in favour of national independence and government policy.

“The fact that we have disputes with the decision-makers in Brussels does not change the fact that Hungary is on the side of Europe and is working for a strong Europe,” he intoned. “That is why the flawed policy in Brussels that does not focus on essential questions needs to be reformed, so that Europe continues to be the best place in the world.”
