Old 10,000 Forint Withdrawal Date Set
At the end of this year, on 31 December 2019, the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) will finally withdraw the old HUF 10,000 notes from general circulation.

After that date the old bills can be exchanged free of charge at banks and post offices for three years, and for a period of 20 year at the MNB, according to a notice published in the official Magyar Közlöny gazette.

In late 2014 the MNB upgraded the security features on the HUF 10,000 by issuing new notes, but at that time did not set a date for removing old bills from circulation.

MNB also noted online that currently the newer HUF 10,000 notes account for 86% of all HUF 10,000 notes in circulation.
