Video: Hungarian Singer Wins World Music Award
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Saturday congratulated singer Mónika Lakatos on receiving the prestigious World Music Expo award for lifetime achievement.

A proponent of the “Olah Gypsy” singing style, Lakatos is the first Romani artist and the second Hungarian artist or group after the Muzsikás Ensemble to receive this honour.

“This life achievement award honours me not only as a Roma but as a Hungarian, since we have a twofold identity”, she said.

“It was with happiness and pride that I learnt that you as the first Hungarian soloist and the first Romani performing artist, won the Worldwide Music Expo life achievement award”, Orbán said.

The award was announced during an online ceremony on October 26.

The Hey, June! programme series is as old as Müpa Budapest itself. It was first held in 2005, and has taken place at the end of the academic year ever since, ushering in the holidays and the festival season as an in-house mini-festival that opens the door to every aspect of this new beginning, welcoming the summer and giving us good reason to celebrate.
