Serious Doctor Shortage in Budapest
There was a shortage of physicians in a total of 843 basic medical practices on a national scale on September 1, according to data released by the national medical directorate OKFŐ.

Within the total, there were 607 unfilled family doctor positions, and a shortage of 236 dentists.

There are 92 empty family doctor positions and a shortage of dentists in 81 medical practices in Budapest.

Medical care for patients can be solved only through replacement in these consulting rooms just as in the other unfilled zones.

Budapest residents on average spent more than Ft 111,000 on their health in 2020, far above the national average of Ft 74,000, according to the Central Statistics Office. On a monthly scale this constituted somewhat more than Ft 9,300.

Statistics Office data indicates that Hungary should have had 42,000 doctors and 105,000 skilled medical workers for the smooth functioning of health care in 2020, but the actual figures were 37,100 doctors and 101,300 skilled workers.
