It commemorates the Revolution of 1956, when Hungarians rose up against the Soviet ruled communist system and also the ‘Day of the Republic’, as in 1989 Hungary was declared a republic. On October 22nd and 23rd there are several programs held throughout Hungary.

An Austrian citizen who, a court Hungarian ruled, killed a Hungarian policeman by deliberately running over him two years ago, has died in a Hungarian prison, the Austrian foreign ministry told APA news agency, confirming reports in the Hungarian press.
