The Fekete-Körös Valley is situated to the south-east of Nagyvárad (Oradea, Romania) between the Apuseni Mountains (Munţii Apuseni) in Romania and the Great Hungarian Plain. The region was settled by Hungarians – with a focus on its fertile plateau – during the time of the Árpád Dynasty, while the first historical references to Romanian villages date to the end of the 16th century.

The warmest summer month is here, and now its time for the hottest design fair in Hungary, WAMP, to be held again in downtown at Erzsébet Square. For the first time in the history of WAMP - but apparently with the intention of starting a tradition - the 70+ local 'creators' will offer hot discounts, in parallel with end-of-season sales elsewhere in the city.

Several programmes for children and military parades were organized in Budapest with a view to commemorating the rightly famous triumphant siege of Nándorfehérvár (currently Belgrade) in 1456, which has become deeply rooted in European historical memory by the practice of ringing church bells at noon.

A few days ago an article appeared in HVG about the teaching of Hungarian history. The author rightly pointed out that it has been flawed for a very long time. I agree. Hungarians have a warped view of their country’s past.
