The fifth missing piece from the Trau (today Trogir) cycle of paintings by 20th century artist Tivadar Kosztka Csontváry has allegedly been found after 113 years, after the artist’s family approached the gallery wanting to put it up for auction.

Heves county detectives have found paintings that appear to be works by Pablo Picasso, Gustav Klimt, André Derain, Lajos Gulácsy and Adolf Hitler in Budapest and Szeged. Heves county police criminal affairs director János Asztalos told reporters that forensic experts will decide whether the paintings are forgeries or originals, adding that in the latter case the paintings would be priceless.

Two of the paintings that were stolen from a Buda flat in March have been found, Budapest Police announced on Wednesday. The two paintings found are Válaszút (Crossroads) by Béla Kádár and that of an unidentified Dutch painter.

Police have found four of five paintings stolen from a Buda home on March 15, including a rare work by Tivadar Kosztka Csontváry. The painting, Szerelmesek Találkozása (“Lovers Meeting”) is the most valuable Hungarian painting ever sold in Hungary, changing hands for Ft 230 million in 2006.
