Francophone Festival Brings French Style To Hungary

The structure and concept of the fireworks traditionally held on 20 August will be renewed says Ákos Kara, Secretary of State for Infocommunication and Consumer Protection, Ministry of National Development, announced at the press conference on Monday. He also added that they are currently preparing for the most spectacular fireworks of the last few years, reports inforadio.hu.

This year’s WOMEX world music festival wound up with an awards ceremony at the Palace of Arts in Budapest. The Artist Award went to Cheikh Lo, a Senegalese musician. The Professional Excellence Award was presented to Ramin Sadighi, a promoter of Iranian music through his label Hermes Records. Glitterbeat took the Label Award, for the second year in a row.

Hungary will host the first East Central European world music expo Womex on October 21-25, it was announced yesterday. Human Resources Ministry state secretary Péter Hoppál told a press briefing at the Palace of Arts that the festival will have an appropriate home in the country of Bartók and Kodály. The government is granting Ft 300-350 million to the event.
Casino Visitor Numbers Rise Sharply In Hungary

The number of visitors to Hungarian casinos rose sharply after a ban on slot machines in pubs was introduced in the autumn of 2012, data in a written response to a query by an MP show. In the letter from state secretary András Tállai responding to the query by MP István Ikotity of green party LMP, data show visitor numbers to Hungarian casinos rose from 205,000 in 2011 to 300,000 in 2012.

The legal procedure to classify Hungarian-style circus horse acrobatics as a Hungaricum has begun, State Secretary for Culture Péter Hoppál announced at the opening of a new show at Budapest’s Metropolitan Grand Circus on 10 January. The State Secretary supports the renewal of the building of the Circus within the Liget Budapest programme.
