Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker has for decades been an essential part of the Opera’s run-up to Christmas. In memory of Vasili Vainonen and Gusztáv Oláh, we are presenting for Christmas of 2015 a newly buffed-up show that follows classical ballet traditions while still conforming to the requirements of 21st century dance and set design.

A Russian Cultural Festival featuring concerts, theatre and dance performances is being held in Budapest between March 19 and April 3. The festival opens today with a photo exhibition presenting Russian architecture and cultural heritage sites in the Russian Cultural Centre on Andrássy Avenue.

The first marathon at the Palace of Arts in 2008 showcased the works of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The series of 11 concerts on a single day covered a cross-section of the great master's ouevre and exceeded all expectations with its unique theme and atmosphere. In the years that followed, the organisers put together marathon programmes of the work of Dvořák, Beethoven, Schubert, Mozart and Bartók.
